Prizes and Rules
Eligibility:
Everyone is encouraged to enter this contest. Entrants age 17 or younger must have a parent or legal guardian who is age 18 or older enter them into the contest. Contestants may submit more than one design. The non-refundable entry fee is $ 5 per birdhouse which will include admission for the entrant to the Indian Summer Festival on both Saturday and Sunday.
Prize Categories:
• Best Green Design (made from recycled, repurposed, reused materials) $100 prize
• Best Combination of Style and Function $ 75 prize
• People's Choice $ 50 prize
Rules:
• All entries must be original and built by the entrant within the last 12 months.
• Materials must be non-toxic and able to withstand the elements. No treated wood may be used.
• Entries in the green category must identify the green components.
• Birdhouses must be suitable for habitation by a type of bird that nests in Illinois. Entrants must indicate which bird the house is designed for and conform to generally accepted standards
• Overhangs should be provided to keep birdhouses dry.
• No perches should be provided near entry holes to reduce threats from predators.
• Entrant’s name and contact information must be provided on the bottom of the birdhouse. A completed entry form must also accompany the entry.
• Birdhouse entries may be brought to LMG beginning Wednesday, September 14, 2011, and no later than 4 pm on Thursday, October 6, 2011.
• LMG reserves the right to disallow any submission with decorations that include images or words that are objectionable.
• Judging will be by a panel of local experts. Judges will make all decisions including counting votes for the People’s Choice Award.
• Prizes will be awarded at 4 p.m. on October 9, 2011 at the Indian Summer Festival Stage.
• Entrants are asked to pick up their birdhouses no later than October 23, 2011.
Ratings System for Judging
• 1-5 points on construction quality
• 1-5 points on originality
• 1-5 points on functionality
• 1-5 points on appearance
